The challenge every author faces

Writing a book is an enormous achievement, but self-editing only takes you so far. Common pitfalls that slip past even experienced writers include:

  • Inconsistent character details, timelines, or factual references across chapters
  • Repetitive sentence structures that slow down pacing and tire readers
  • Subtle grammar errors that spell-check tools routinely miss
  • Weak transitions between scenes or arguments that break the reader's flow
  • Formatting inconsistencies that signal an unprofessional manuscript to agents and publishers

How we solve it

Our editorial team combines deep genre knowledge with rigorous technique. Every project receives a dedicated editor who understands your voice and goals. We work across fiction, non-fiction, academic texts, and memoir, applying the right level of intervention — never more, never less. The result is a manuscript that reads exactly the way you intended, only sharper and cleaner.

We also provide a detailed editorial letter summarising the changes we made and why, so you learn from each round and grow as a writer. That transparency is central to how we operate.

Tailored book services for every stage of writing

Whether you are drafting chapter one or preparing a final proof before print, we have a service tier designed for exactly where you are.

Developmental editing

We evaluate your book's overall structure, plot or argument arc, pacing, character development, and thematic consistency. You receive a comprehensive editorial letter plus in-line margin comments guiding revision priorities. Ideal for early-to-mid drafts of novels, memoirs, and non-fiction proposals.

Copy editing

Line-by-line refinement of grammar, syntax, word choice, and consistency. We enforce your chosen style guide — Chicago, AP, or a custom house sheet — and flag any factual queries. This is the service most requested by authors who have already revised their manuscript at least once and need a professional polish.

Proofreading

The final safety net before publication. We catch typographical errors, punctuation slips, formatting glitches, and layout problems in your typeset or formatted file. Delivered with a clean, marked-up proof so you can approve each correction before it goes to press or upload.

Manuscript assessment

Not sure if your book is ready for a full edit? Our assessment provides a candid, constructive overview of strengths and weaknesses, a genre-market positioning note, and a recommended editing pathway — all within five business days.

Academic and non-fiction review

Specialised editing for theses, dissertations, research monographs, and business books. We check citation formatting, cross-references, table and figure numbering, and academic tone — ensuring your work meets institutional or publisher guidelines.

Query letter and synopsis critique

Your query letter is the gateway to agents and publishers. We refine your pitch, tighten your synopsis, and ensure your submission package is compelling, concise, and formatted to industry standards.

Things authors often ask us

How long does a typical book edit take?
Turnaround depends on the service level and manuscript length. A standard copy edit of a 70,000-word novel usually takes seven to ten business days. Developmental edits may require two to three weeks. We always confirm the timeline before work begins, and rush options are available for an additional fee.
What file formats do you accept?
We work with Microsoft Word (.docx), Google Docs, and PDF files. For proofreading of typeset layouts, we also accept InDesign packages and ePub files. If your manuscript is in another format, just let us know and we will accommodate it.
Will you change my writing voice?
Absolutely not. Our editors are trained to preserve and enhance your unique voice. We correct errors and smooth rough patches, but the personality, tone, and style of the prose remain yours. Every suggestion is tracked so you retain full control over what stays and what changes.
Do you work with self-publishing authors?
Yes. A large portion of our clients are independent authors preparing books for Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, or other self-publishing platforms. We understand the specific formatting and quality benchmarks those platforms require and can advise accordingly.
Is my manuscript kept confidential?
Completely. Every project is covered by a non-disclosure agreement. We never share, distribute, or retain your content beyond the duration of the editing engagement. Files are stored on encrypted servers and permanently deleted 30 days after delivery unless you request otherwise.
How is pricing determined?
We price per word, with rates varying by service tier. Developmental editing sits at the higher end because of the depth of analysis involved, while proofreading is the most affordable option. After reviewing a sample of your manuscript, we provide a fixed-price quote so there are no surprises.
